Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. At the age five she moved from London to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma's goal was to be an actor. When she was 6she was enrolled into the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch, where she took classes in acting, singing and dance. From the age of 10, she took part and played the leading role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Agents for casting found Emma by way of her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had eight straight auditions. Emma's debut film appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. Reviewers praised the film, and especially the younger actors. The well-known British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her outstanding performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of a Film.
