Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri is an Indian actress who achieved notoriety for her roles in the film Hum Aapke Hin Koun as well as Beta Saajan. Her first fame was the role she played in the 1980s film Tezaab where she co-starred along with the veteran actor Anil Koopor. Her next film was the movie Dil in which she starred alongside Aamir Khan. Born into a middle-class family in Mumbai she was able to learn dance at an early age. At the age of 15 began acting, but struggled as many films she made were not successful. She finally found success, and became one of the most prominent actresses in the Indian film industry. The marriage of her mother led to an interruption in her career. Later, she returned. More recently she played in a crucial part in the movie Gulaab Gang which was about the struggle of women living in India. Dixit won eight Filmfare Awards out of the fifteen nominations she received. Padma Shri - the fourth most highly regarded civilian award in India is awarded to Dixit. Her reputation also includes as a social activist.
